A paradigm shift of education

By 2030, the number of Internet-of-Things will much surpass the number of mobile phones, and artificial intelligence also the same.

There are only a few cars on the street of New York City in a picture in 1900 compared to the majority of carriages drawn by horses, but in the year 1913 a picture in the same street in New York City, carriages drawn by horses count much lesser, the majority are car. It is a phenomenon of a Paradigm shift.

What we meant a paradigm shift is now, the majority of the technology like the mobile phones we currently using, the minority is Internet-of-things, and, artificial intelligence technology is also a minority. There is a paradigm shift, after ten years or so, all those minority technologies become the majority.

Education should also have a paradigm shift. In order to provide knowledge updates on relevant advancements, STEM activities are needed, together with hands-on and minds-on experience for the participants, some scientific and technology teaching activities start early in school, design and make became normal practices, applying mathematical and statistical reasoning tools became a familiar tool for an early year in secondary schools. There are regular opportunities being provided between schools to share some STEM good practices. You could call it a competition or some activities having rewards for the participants. The participants working together to accomplish their project, hands-on tasks.

We want to be trained and learned with flexibility, thus, when writing a computer program, we do not want to write a hard-coded program, and hard-wired connections with circuit flexibility also highly expected using components, because we wanted to learn with flexibility. The problem in everyday life is continually changing at high speed, when a textbook is published, the news became old and we need to learn with the highest flexibility, so what we have learned should evolve in our mind and not become old knowledge. For educational kits, components expected to connect with fixed wired or should modular with open creativity for the connection, which one has higher education values is what we should think and evaluate? Problem-based learning is very good, but if the problem is not concrete and motivating if one is not going to accept the challenge, the problem seems not to have an impact on the learner.

Thus, there is also a class for the designing of STEM learning and teaching activities, inter-school teachers share their STEM teaching methodologies, and hands-on skills, their also gather together to be guided on the design of teaching activities with specific objectives, say, the next-generation microscope is like what. Knowledge and skills, creativity, as well as facilitate the integration of knowledge.

STEM education is a globally happening trend, some say scientists and engineers are in demand, the expectation of technology advancement is in need every day. Schools need a key initiative in their curriculum, it is essential to prepare students to have the mindset to face the rapid economic society ahead. We need curriculum leaders to strengthen their curriculum and capacity in cross-subject integration of STEM education. There are physics, chemistry and biology always, but to deliver a more application-oriented curriculum, say smarter living & well-being, all physics, chemistry, and biology are putting together to deliver the expected outcome, there are also artificial intelligence, internet of things, electronics, mechanics, and more, there are in need to integrate together to a smart living curriculum, to bring in the students as an active participant, a problem may big enough for their imagination to figure out a solution, for example, how to heal the largest desert on earth, ask this question to primary school student, there are a lot of imagination proposed solutions.

A paradigm shift is a word to describe the big change, from the industrial age to the information age, and now is the shift to artificial intelligence age.
